Authentic Indian Curry Recipes

By

The word 'curry' is synonymous with Indian food! Even though, as popularly believed, not all Indian food is curry, there are some delicious examples of it in this varied, exotic cuisine. Here is just a small sampling of recipes for you to try in your own kitchen.

Chicken Curry

This most basic of chicken recipes is also one of the tastiest! Serve Chicken Curry with hot Chapatis (Indian flatbread) or plain boiled rice.

Maharashtrian Chicken Curry

Maharashtrian Chicken Curry is made with the trademark coconut milk used in lots of Maharashtrian cooking. Serve it with rice and a green salad or a simple vegetarian side dish.

Kofta Curry

The koftas (meatballs) in this dish can be made with beef, lamb or chicken. It makes a great meal when served with jeera rice and kachumbar salad.

Madras Lamb Curry

I have always been intrigued by what is known worldwide as the fiery Madras Curry. No such curry is actually traditionally made in India! This popular dish is in fact, a western version of how meat curries are made in south India! Here is how I make it, using traditional south Indian spices.

Granny's Masala Parcha Curry

I get my Grandmother to cook this dish for me every time I see her! It gets its name from the almost paper thin (parcha is the Hindi word for note) veal steaks used to make it!

Goan Fish Curry

Almost the staple food of Goa along with rice, fish curry made in this style is tangy and spicy! Tuna tastes especially good in Goan Fish Curry but you can also use any fish with firm white flesh.

Mom's Fish Curry

This curry is truly delicious! I say so with such confidence because I grew up eating it - this is my mom's recipe. The ingredients used to make it show a mix of both eastern and northern Indian culinary influences. Serve it with piping hot plain boiled rice.

South Indian Fish Curry

The tamarind in this gravy-based dish gives it a lovely tangy flavor that goes really well with plain boiled rice. In fact, that is how it is traditionally eaten.

Egg Curry

There are several different styles for making Egg Curry and this recipe is North Indian in origin. Serve Egg Curry with a vegetable side dish and rice.

Omlette Curry

Ever thought you could make omlettes into a curry? Yes, you can! Here's an easy recipe.
