Chaat Recipes

By Petrina Verma Sarkar, About.com

Indians love a good snack. In fact some of these are so substantial they can even pass for a meal. Chaat - a generic name for certain kinds of hot, tangy, sweet nibbles - is one such group of foods. They are so popular, in North India there is a Chaat vendor at almost every street corner! I love making and eating Chaat and often have Chaat parties at my place. It is great fun!

1. Tikki Chaat - Potato Pattie Chaat

Crispy potato patties straight off the pan and smothered in hot, tangy chutneys!!!! This one is my personal favorite.

2. Papdi Chaat - Crispy Wafer Chaat

Crunchy, tangy, hot and sweet flavors combine to make Papdi Chaat delicious to eat as a snack or a great alternative to a meal.

3. Paani Puri - Puffed Pooris filled with Tangy Water

This snack is not just delicious, it is also fun to make and eat. Call friends over and make a whole heap!

4. Bhelpuri - Western Indian Puffed Rice Salad

A snack with almost iconic status in Western India, bhelpuri is low-fat, nutritious and delicious!

5. Jhaal Muri - Eastern Indian Spicy Puffed Rice Salad

My husband adores this one! It's so easy to make, your kids can prepare it!
