The Hindi word Daal is used to describe both the raw material (the lentils) and the finished dish (a soup-like lentil dish)! Daals are dearly loved in India and prepared in a multitude of ways. They have to be among my favorite Indian foods to eat. In fact, when I am sick and sorry, I often ask my Mom to cook me some Daal!

I love lentils. The can be substituted for meat in most recipes.
