A Whole Lot of Fish!

Monday November 10, 2008
MackerelThere's only one thing the Bengalis from eastern India love more than their sweets - fish! My husband's family is Bengali and since my in-laws are vacationing with us right now, we've been eating loads of fish. We've all given the preparation of the fish a shot!

I cooked Fish Curry with my Mom's recipe on one occasion and on another, made Goan Fish Curry. My Father-in-law prepared a mean Doi Maach one night. Though technically not fish, I will also mention the delicious Malai Prawns hubby stirred up for us! Yummy in my tummy!

Next on the list? Mackerel Raechad and Prawn Balchao. Mackerel Raechad is a fried fish dish from Goa (in coastal western India) that uses the special Raechad masala. The sharp, fiery taste of the masala and the strong flavor of the mackerel go really well together. Prawn Balchao, another hot dish also from Goa, is almost like a pickle and best enjoyed with plain boiled rice.

Your kofta meatball curry has an error in the ingredients and preparation. You have written:
1 bsp gaam masala – do you mean 1 tbsp of garam masala or 1 tsp of garam masala.

Then in the preparation you have written 2 tbsps of garam masala.

Hi Marie,
Thanks for bringing the typo error to my notice. I have now corrected it. The ‘bsp’ was meant to be ‘tsp’ – teaspoon.
Also the 2 lots of garam masala in the recipe are, one for the koftas and the other lot for the gravy. This was already clear from the instructions but I have further specified it in the ingredient list now to make it even clearer. Hope that helps.
Warm regards,
Petrina
