Daal-icious!
Saturday April 15, 2006
Want soup Indian-style? Want something that will enhance the flavors of a stir-fry meat or vegetable dish? Or just require a side dish to add variety to your meal? Daal (the Hindi word for lentil dishes) is the answer to all those needs! Versatile, healthy, wholesome and very tasty, Daals are also my favorite comfort food. They're made differently in almost every state of India! Make some in your own kitchen with these recipes for the Top 5 Lentil/Daal Dishes.
While you're at it, here's just a tiny sampling of foods that taste great with Daals:
- Masala Kheema (spicy minced meat)
- Achaari Murg (pickle-style chicken)
- Chatpati Arvi (hot and sour, crispy fried colocasia/taro)
- Achaari Baingan (pickle-style baby eggplant) and
- Kurkuri Bhindi (crispy okra)
